STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) Medical Staff is proud to welcome Kristina Assaf, DO, to its esteemed medical team. A pediatrician with a deep passion for children’s health, Dr. Assaf will begin seeing patients at the Family Health Care office at Bloomsdale Medical Centre.
Dr. Assaf has long known that working with children would be a central part of her future.
“Growing up, I loved being around kids and working with them,” she shared. “It was just a matter of deciding how I wanted to channel that passion. In high school and college, I volunteered extensively with children, both healthy and those facing medical challenges. That experience only deepened my interest in pediatrics.”
Dr. Assaf brings a special interest in pediatric mental health and allergies to her practice, but what truly drives her is the opportunity to help shape the lives of young patients.
“What I love most about pediatrics is the chance to intervene early and help set a child on a healthy path,” she said. “It’s a privilege to walk alongside families through each stage of a child’s development—watching them grow, supporting their parents, and making a meaningful impact on their future.”
In addition to her clinical interests, Dr. Assaf is excited to serve in a rural community.
“I’m really looking forward to this new chapter,” she said. “Practicing in a rural area allows you to provide a wide range of care, and when additional resources are needed, it challenges me as a physician to problem-solve and find the best solutions for my patients.”
A St. Louis native, Dr. Assaf earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Biology from Saint Louis University. She went on to receive her medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and completed her pediatric residency at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio.
Now back in her hometown area, Dr. Assaf is enjoying reconnecting with friends, spending time with her parents, and settling into a new routine.
She is currently accepting new patients at the Bloomsdale Medical Centre and looks forward to forming lasting relationships with families while supporting the health and well-being of children throughout the area.
