Sen. Schmitt’s streak of white Christian nationalism: five times he said the quiet part out loud

By Progress MO

KANSAS CITY, Mo – Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt’s political identity continues to push further toward the extreme right. Since his swearing in nearly 3 years ago, the junior Senator has devolved from a reasonable public servant to a radical white Christian nationalist promoting extreme and divisive ideologies.

Here are five things Schmitt has said or done in the last 12 months:

  • Hired previously-linked neo-Nazi Nate Hochman as a policy advisor. Hochman was fired from the DeSantis campaign after creating a video that featured a neo-Nazi symbol.

  • Stated that the country “[needs] a cleansing,” and posited that political violence is only coming from the left.

  • Gave a speech at the National Conservatism Conference in D.C., where he reinforced White Christian-nationalism claiming “Real Americans” can trace their ancestry to settlers.

  • Defended Trump’s pardon of narco-traffiker, Juan Orlando Hernández, while deflecting into an “America first,” and “might makes right,” ideology.

  • Celebrated operation “Absolute Resolve,” despite its international illegality, calling back to the Monroe Doctrine. In his online celebration, he reinforced the mythology of US dominance over the western hemisphere calling it “our hemisphere.”

Schmitt’s commitment to carrying the torch of White Christian Nationalism demands attention — not just of Missourians, but all impacted by the ethos he supports.
