Samantha “Sam” I. Stellhorn, 59, of Red Bud, Illinois, passed away at 12:40 pm, Sunday, July 13, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born to the late Norton and Mary Ann (nee Krull) Newcomb on September 9, 1965, in Denver, Colorado.
Sam married Timothy D. Stellhorn on September 28, 1991, in Lebanon, Illinois; he survives.
She worked at the Human Service Center (now ComWell) in Red Bud from 2005 to 2016 as a Mental Health Therapist and was also promoted to Crisis Coordinator. She then worked at the Menard Correctional Center in Chester as a Mental Health Therapist until her retirement in 2022. In prior years, when she was a stay-at-home mom, she ran an in-home daycare, was a substitute teacher for local schools, and taught religion classes at St. John the Baptist Catholic School.
Sam was of the Catholic Faith and attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, Illinois.
Sam enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. They would do all sorts of things together, including boating (especially at Kinkaid Lake to go to the Spillway), taking jeep rides, huge family dinners, oil painting, and going swimming. In college, she worked at an auto body shop and fixed up her beautiful 1966 Bonneville. She also loved spending time in nature, so gardening was always a favorite pastime. She even learned how to grow medicinal plants. Sam had a big heart and enjoyed being around the people she cared about most.
