Chancellor Austin A. Lane said Saluki Remembrance Day serves as a pillar of support for those families and friends who have lost a loved one.

“The passing of any member of our Saluki family affects us all. Saluki Remembrance Day serves as a solemn occasion for reflection. As we join the families in their grief, we hope this ceremony offers solace and honors the lasting impact of those we have lost to ensure their loved ones are never forgotten.”

The ceremony will include brief remarks by Lane and Sheryl Tucker, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, a poem written by Allison Joseph, siu.edu/profiles/j-l/joseph-allison.php a professor in English and read by a student, the reading of names of the two students and four staff members who have passed, the presentation of a memorial item to family members present and a moment of silence.

The School of Music’s Southern Brass quintet will perform as people arrive for the ceremony and later play SIU Carbondale’s “Alma Mater.”
