Residents continue to press aldermen to rescind ICE agreement

STE. GENEVIEVE – Several Ste. Genevieve residents attended Thursday’s Board of Aldermen meeting and some of them took advantage of the “public comment” section of the meeting to urge the board to rescind its agreement with ICE. The agreement, allows the city police to work with the agency when necessary to apprehend individuals who might be in the country illegally.

In other business:

 

Ste. Genevieve Municipal Band President Jimmie Donze presented the band’s annual report.

 

City Administrator David Bova presented his report, which included an announcement that the Building and Planning Director for Crystal City, Robert Sullivan, has acceptedthe position of Assistant City Administrator for Ste. Genevieve and will be starting on March 16th.

 

Bova also announced that the city will be meeting with the Ste. Genevieve County Commission Monday morning to discuss and intergovernmental agreement regarding the potential lodging tax that will be on the April 7 ballot.

 

Other reports were presented by Police Chief Daniel Halek and Alliance Water Resources’ Corey Litterst.

 

The consent agenda items were approved, including:

 

Resolution 2026-23 to apply for a Missouri Department of Natural Resources Grant to update the historic data GIS layer for historic Ste. Genevieve.

 

Resolution 2026-24 for the police department to apply for a grant with the Missouri Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Officer Match.

 

The following bills were approved under old business:

 

Bill No. 4705 for final approval of a $28,758.88 agreement with Superior Roofing Strategies LLC for the water treatment facility roof repairs project. The vote was 6-0 with one abstention, Alderman Robert Donovan and one absent, Alderman Teddy Ross. Alderman Donovan indicated a conflict of interest as the reason for this abstention. The minutes of the previous meeting were corrected to indicate he abstained when the issue was presented for first reading.

 

Bill No. 4707 for final approval of an amendment to Section 112.020, custodian designated response to request for access to records of the ordinances of the city of Ste. Genevieve. The vote was 7-0 with one absence.

 

Under new business:

 

Bill No. 4708 was given first round approval for an agreement with Y PR to develop an email marketing newsletter for the city.

 

Bill No. 4709 was give first round approval for an agreement with Brian Hawkins for a film exhibitor’s license to conduct a showing of the film “Chasse Galerite”

 

Following the open meeting, the board met in a closed session to discuss legal actions and negotiated contract.
