JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri State Representative Ray Reed requested that the Missouri House of Representatives will observe a moment of silence in honor of Ray Hartman, the longtime journalist and commentator whose work helped shape civic life across St. Louis.
“For decades, Ray Hartman was a steady and trusted voice in our region,” Rep. Reed said. “He had a rare ability to cut through the noise with clarity and wit, always grounded in a deep love for St. Louis.”
Hartman’s career spanned generations of public life in the region, including his role as a founding figure at the Riverfront Times and as a familiar presence on PBS’ Donnybrook. Through his reporting and commentary, he elevated public discourse and encouraged thoughtful, informed engagement on the issues facing the community.
“Ray believed this region was worth fighting for, not through spectacle, but through honest conversation,” Rep. Reed added. “He challenged all of us in public life to listen more closely and to never lose sight of the people behind the politics.”
The Missouri House will pause to recognize Hartman’s life and contributions, honoring a legacy defined by integrity, public service, and a commitment to strengthening civic dialogue.
The Missouri House extends their condolences to Hartman’s wife, Kerri, his children, his colleagues, and all those across St. Louis who were impacted by his life and work.
