Red Cross volunteers and firefighters visited several mobile home communities in Perryville, including Three Lakes Capital LLC and Brown Family Enterprises. Together, they installed 24 smoke alarms, helped 80 people, including 35 kids, create home fire escape plans and provided them with safety information about tornadoes and floods.

This effort is part of a national Sound the Alarm initiative to install free smoke alarms and educate families on home fire safety in neighborhoods and communities across the U.S. Local Sound the Alarm events like this one are a critical part of the national Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, which has helped save at least 2,600 lives since launching in October 2014. “We are grateful for the partnership with the Perry County Emergency Management Agency and Perryville Fire Department to install free smoke alarms,” said Micheal Sullivan, Executive Director, Red Cross of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas. (Photo courtesy of American Red Cross)
“Home fires are a constant threat in our community, accounting for most of our disaster responses. Every second counts when there’s a home fire and the sooner an alarm alerts you to a fire, the sooner you can get out.”
Those neighbors who were not home during the installation window or who need alarms can contact the fire department or go to www.redcross.org/smokealarmmo to request a visit.
