Ozone readings for April remain good, but increase is noted

PERRYVILLE – Air quality in the region remains good, however a recent report of ozone measurements at Farrar and Bonne Terre released by the Southeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission show a 4-5 part per billion increase over April of last year.

This past month the average ozone level at Bonne Terre was 49 ppb and at Farrar was 50 ppb. The highest levels recorded at the sites were 60 ppb (Bonne Terre) and 62 ppb (Farrar).

Comparatively, last April the average for both sites was 45 ppb, indicating that the average has increased by 4-5 ppb since last season.

Despite the increase, the April 2023 average is still within the “Good” Air Quality Index (AQI) range, as per the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).
