JEFFERSON CITY — A 65 year-old St. Louis man died and a 63-year-old St. Louis man was seriously injured in a traffic crash on I-55 in Perry County Friday night.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports both persons were passengers in a southbound 2011 Nissan Murano which had stopped in lane two ot the interstate at the 133 mile marker and was struck in the rear by a southbound 2025 Volvo VNL tractor driven by a 61-year-old Van Buren, Arkansas man who was not injured. The driver of the Murano, a 63-year-old man from Hazelwood was also uninjured.
The accident report states that after the impact, the Volvo traveled off the right side of the roadway and came to rest on the right shoulder of southbound I-55. The Murano traveled off the right side of the roadway and came to rest in the grass.
The 65-year-old St. Louis man was pronounced at Mercy Hospital Perry at 11:24 p.m. where he had been taken by a Mercy Perry ambulance. The seriously injured St. Louis man was taken to St. Francis Medical Center by a Mercy Perry ambulance.
The patrol says the two St. Louis men and the Hazelwood man’s seat belt usage is unknown, while the driver of the Volvo was buckled up.
The crash happened about 10:33 p.m.
The Murano was a total loss while the Volvo had moderate damage. Both were towed by Miner’s Towing.
The patrol report states the driver of the Murano was a 63-year-old man from Hazelwood, but also states the driver was the 63-year-old man from St. Louis.
