Museum Learning Center Speaker Series presents ‘The Story of a Confederate Spy’

STE. GENEVIEVE –  The Ste. Genevieve Museum Learning Center Speaker Series will present Barnes M. Bradshaw and “The Story of a Confederate Spy” Wednesday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Orris Theater in Ste. Genevieve.

Learn what it was like to be Confederate prisoner of war held in the city of St. Louis.

Relive the experience through the words and mental pictures evoked by one of Gratiot Street Prison’s former inmates as he relates the hardships of prison life and the absurdities of Civil War era justice. Hear how the people of St. Louis treated the prisoners and also of the life and seemingly unbelievable exploits of convicted Confederate spy Absalom Grimes.

Bradshaw’s presentation is half history and half theatrics.

Barney Bradshaw, who among others things spent 17 years working for the Missouri Historical Society, also works at the Jefferson Barracks Museum. His entertaining presentation promises that you will not only learn something about this historic event, but you will feel as if you had actually been there.

This special presentation is offered free of charge. However, donations will be appreciated.

It will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Orris Theater, 265 East Merchant Street, Ste. Genevieve.
