MoDOT to host Groundbreaking Ceremony in Concordia for Improve I-70: Truck Parking project

The Missouri Department of Transportation invites the media to a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the start of construction for Improve I-70: Truck Parking. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the eastbound I-70 Rest Area in Concordia (approximately mile marker 57.4). Access the rest area via eastbound I-70 at approximately mile marker 57.4. MoDOT staff will be on site to direct attendees and to assist with parking. Carpooling is highly encouraged.

Funded through a Federal Grant (INFRA), Improve I-70: Truck Parking is a $33 million Design-Build project that will expand availability of truck parking along the I-70 corridor. The project will make improvements at the existing truck parking locations in Concordia, Boonville, Mineola, and Wright City. This Design-Build project was awarded to best value proposer and Design-Build contractor team, the KCI Construction Team, which is comprised of contractors KCI and designer Bartlett & West. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2026 and is anticipated to be complete in late 2028.

Missouri’s FY2024 budget, approved through the state legislative process and signed into law by the governor, provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville. Total program completion is anticipated by the end of 2030. For more information on the Improve I-70 Program and to sign up for program e-mails, visit http://www.modot.org/improvei70.
