MoDNR supports preference for Missouri-grown natural hardwood in state park construction

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has said it supports preference for Missouri-grown natural hardwood in Missouri state park construction, including cabin flooring.

“This is good for both the environment and the economy,” said Kurt Schaefer, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. “Hardwood flooring lasts longer than plastic, so not only will this keep dollars in Missouri, it will also keep plastic out of our landfills.”

Missouri’s Division of State Parks has a number of revenue bond projects, including new cabin construction, planned for the next two years.

When soliciting bids for construction, the Department of Natural Resources will emphasize a preference for Missouri-grown hardwood consistent with Missouri procurement statutes. The department expects wood products used in projects will, to the greatest extent practical, be sourced from Missouri, and will give preference to Missouri forest products where they are available, meet project specifications and are competitively priced.

“We’re excited to have Missouri products featured in Missouri state parks,” said Laura Hendrickson, director of DNR’s Division of State Parks. “Hardwood is beautiful, providing warmth and long-term value.”
