Missouri in 1861: The Rise and Fall of John and Jessie Fremont

STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will host a presentation by Gregory Wolk entitled “Missouri in 1861: The Rise and Fall of John and Jessie Fremont” at 6:30 pm on February 10, 2026 at The Orris at 265 Merchant St, Ste. Genevieve, MO. Members of the community are invited to attend this free program. This program is made possible by Missouri Humanities.

Greg Wolk of Kirkwood, Missouri is the author of two books about the Civil War in Missouri, Friend and Foe Alike: A Tour Guide of Missouri’s Civil War (2010) and John Fremont’s 100 Days: Clashes and Convictions in Civil War Missouri (2025). His lecture and power point on February 10 explores the subjects of his most recent book, dealing with Maj. Gen. Fremont’s tumultuous tenure as commander of the Western Department of the US Army.
