JEFFERSON CITY, MO – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Energy is partnering with the Environmental Improvement and Energy Resources Authority to secure a contractor to develop a new Comprehensive State Energy Plan.
The request for proposals is open until 3 p.m. Oct. 28. The request seeks a contractor to perform quantitative modeling and analysis of Missouri’s current and projected energy resource needs, and to produce a Comprehensive State Energy Plan by July 1, 2026.
The department’s Division of Energy has conducted state energy planning exercises since the 1990s, combining input from governmental, industry and community stakeholders with policy and economic analysis to plan for Missouri’s energy future. The division completed Missouri’s current Comprehensive State Energy Plan in 2015.
“The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is committed to working with our stakeholders to develop a robust Comprehensive State Energy Plan. This plan will offer state and local leaders valuable insights into Missouri’s energy landscape that will guide efforts to bolster energy capacity in Missouri,” said Kurt Schaefer, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. “The time is now for Missouri to build the infrastructure necessary to maximize the forecasted economic investments in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and data centers.”
Today, the energy landscape is a diverse mix of fossil fuels, nuclear and renewable energy sources, with a significant shift to natural gas related to rapidly escalating energy demand. Federal executive orders have shifted the nation’s energy policy focus to a reliable, diversified and affordable energy supply to drive manufacturing, transportation, agriculture and defense industries, and to sustain the basics of modern life and military preparedness. The department intends to develop a new energy plan to serve as the roadmap for state energy policy that positions Missouri to support economic growth and address emerging challenges, such as the rising demand from data centers.
