Midwest Region prices rose 1.1% in May, up 5.0% over the year. 

KANSAS CITY — The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) in the Midwest region advanced 1.1% in May, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported today. The energy index increased 10.0%, led by higher prices for gasoline. The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.4%, while the index for food was up 0.5% over the same period.

 

 

The Midwest region all items CPI-U increased 5.0% for the 12 months ending in May. The index for all items less food and energy rose 3.5% over the year, while the index for energy advanced 26.8%. The food index was up 3.3%.
