SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Gardeners of all experience levels can explore new techniques and ideas at the 2026 University of Missouri Extension Master Gardener State Conference, June 4–7 in Springfield. Attendees do not need to be certified Master Gardeners to participate.
Workshops and a trade show will highlight innovative approaches to gardening with a focus on “Seeds to Table – Cultivating Health and Sustainability,” says MU Extension horticulture specialist Kelly McGowan.
Saturday evening’s keynote speaker will be London-born chef-turned-gardener Mitch McCulloch. McCulloch, author of “The Seed Hunter,” is known for his work preserving rare and endangered heirloom vegetables.
The conference includes tours throughout the Springfield area, breakout sessions, networking opportunities, an on-site trade show and hands-on activities at the Oasis Hotel and Convention Center, says MU Extension state Master Gardener coordinator Debi Kelly. Shuttle transportation will be provided for off-site tours and classes.
Tour options range include the Baker Creek seed packing facility and Ozarks Food Harvest’s Full Circle Gardens, home gardens, Extension Master Gardener demonstration gardens, local parks and Springfield’s botanical gardens. Breakout sessions will cover topics such as vegetable and herb gardening, pollinators and native plants, sensory gardens, nature scaping and home landscapes.
Additional sessions will explore timely issues including microplastics, yard ethics and the value of manure.
Presentations on peonies and pollinators, weed warfare, hummingbird habits, cold frames and hot nights will round out the educational offerings, along with hands-on activities such as building terrariums and nature shadow boxes.
Master Gardeners of Greene County will host the conference.
