Marian R. Knop

A funeral will be held Friday, February 27, 2026 for 91-year-old Marian R. Knop of Chester, Illinois, who passed away at 6:30 a.m., Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Addington Place of Sparta, Sparta, Illinois.

 

She was born December 12, 1934 in Red Bud, Illinois, to Theodore E. and Amelia M. (nee Blumenschein) Guebert, who both preceded her in death.

Marian married Roger W. Knop on November 23, 1957 in Red Bud, Illinois; he preceded her in death on September 6, 1976.

She is survived by three sons: William (Kim) Knop of Steeleville, IL, Terry (Meg) Knop of Chester, IL

and Kenneth (Tara) Knop of Steeleville, IL; two sisters: Ruby Hering Stauton, IL and Eula Rehberg Marengo, IL; a brother: Willard (Sue) Guebert of Red Bud, IL; two sisters-in-law: Elaine Guebert of Red Bud, IL and Doris (Herb) Knop Beattie of Sparta, IL; a brother-in-law: John Waitr of Red Bud, IL; eight grandchildren: Kevin (Elise) Knop, Chris Knop, Hanna (Eric) Zipfel, Brent Knop, Tyler Knop, Teddy Knop, Justin Knop (Megan Menotti) and Grace (Hunter) Beetley; two great grandchildren: Levi and Judah and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Marvin Guebert and Eugene Guebert; a sister: Eunice Waitr and two brothers-in-law: Paul Hering and John Rehberg.

She had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Memorial Hospital in Chester until her retirement.

Marian had also volunteered for the Chester Grade School Preschool for several years.

Marian was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois.

Marian enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling with her friends Lisa Austin and Doris Feaman.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2026 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, Illinois.

at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, Illinois. Officiating: Rev. Timothy Sims.

Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Chester, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to the St. John Lutheran New Facility Fund, St. John Lutheran School, Chester, Illinois and to the St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, Illinois.
