Man who was shot, faces charges in Jefferson County incident

HILLSBORO – Sheriff Dave Marshak announces an arrest and charges in a shooting that occurred on June 23rd at the Cedar Hill River Access.

20-year-old Chase Hoofman of Festus is charged with two counts each of Assault – 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action, as well as one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Investigators believe Hoofman was involved in a verbal altercation with a group of people during which he allegedly drew a handgun and pointed it at others, and ultimately fired into the ground near the others. Members of the group drew handguns of their own and warned Hoofman to leave. Investigators believe Hoofman continued to display his gun in a threatening manner and pointed it again at members of the group. At that time, a member of the group fired at Hoofman, striking him.

Hoofman was located at the river access on the 23rd with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

Deputies with the Road Patrol Division arrested Hoofman on the evening of  July 7th, and transported him to the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

At this time, no charges are being considered against the individual who shot Hoofman.

This was a complex investigation that took time, resources, and patience. The Sheriff’s Office commends the work of investigators and thanks the members of Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Trisha Stefanksi’s office for their efforts to seek charges.
