Fifty new birdhouses have been installed throughout Perryville’s parks as part of a Girl Scout Gold Award project completed by Lucy Allen.
For her project, Allen built and installed the birdhouses to provide nesting sites for bluebirds and other local bird species. The project required planning, construction and installation of the birdhouses throughout the city’s park system.
The birdhouses are intended to support local wildlife and contribute to the ecosystem. Birds can play a role in natural pest control and seed dispersal, helping maintain a healthy environment.
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouting and requires recipients to complete a project involving a minimum of 80 hours of independent work.
Visitors to Perryville’s parks may spot the new birdhouses while enjoying the outdoor spaces.
