A funeral will be held Monday, December 29, 2025 for 73-year-old Lawrence “Larry” Neil Mcdonough of Ellis Grove, Illinois, who passed away at 5:42 am, Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at his residence.
He was born November 29, 1952 in Chester, Illinois to Lawrence O. and Shirley M. (nee Seymour) McDonough.
Larry married Anita Naeger July 5, 1980 at First Baptist Church in Ellis Grove; she survives.
He is also survived by three children: Matthew (Chelsea) McDonough of Chester, IL, Melissa (Tony) Martin of Park Hills, MO and Michelle Davis of Ellis Grove, IL; 10 grandchildren: Kyndl, Rylie, Maelee, Cayson, Sadie, Anna, Josie, Phin, Marcus and Brooke; a sister: Donna Schroeder of Ellis Grove, IL; seven siblings-in-law: Nancy (John) Muzzarelli of Murphysboro, IL, Ned (Karen) Naeger of Normal, IL, Glen (Lou) Naeger of Walsh, IL, Linda (Denny) Beck of Chester, IL, Alice (Tim) Cushman of Chester, IL, Tim (Tami) Naeger of Altenburg, MO and Chris (Lori) Naeger of Chester, IL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was also preceded in death by: his in-laws: Cletus and Dorothy Naeger; a brother: Bruce McDonough; a brother-in-law: Scott Schroeder and a sister-in-law: Kimberly Naeger.
Larry worked for Singer Furnace Factory in the late 70’s and early 80’s. He then worked for Spartan Printing for 13 years and after that was self employed for several years, installing printing machines in South America, Canada, England and throughout the United States. He then worked as an electrical engineer for SCF Services for 13 years until his retirement.
Larry was a member of First Baptist Church in Ellis Grove where he was a Sunday School teacher and served as a deacon. He loved to be outdoors, trap and target shooting and working on his many different projects. Larry enjoyed camping, reading, traveling and writing poetry. He loved to talk to people about Jesus and politics. Larry enjoyed spending time with family, friends and being involved in church activities.
A funeral for 73-year-old Lawrence “Larry” Neil Mcdonough of Ellis Grove, Illinois, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2025 at the First Baptist Church, Ellis Grove, Illinois. Officiating: Pastor Dan Ahlenius.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2025 at the Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester, Illinois and 9-11 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2025 at the First Baptist Church, Ellis Grove, Illinois.
Interment will be in the Ellis Grove City Cemetery in Ellis Grove, Illinois.
