With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Landen Thompson, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. Landen passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of 21.
He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Valerie (John) Bales, and his father, Michael (Amanda) Thompson. He is also survived by his siblings: Chase Thompson, Jordan Bales, Jayce Bales, Johanna Bales, Jagger Bales, Jett Bales, and Jack Bales.
Landen was the cherished grandson of Jim (Becky) Schenck, Lloyd (Donna) Thompson, Linda Bales, Judy Vogel, and Warren Russell. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Bales, Jr.
He will be missed dearly by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends, especially his special friend, Elena Lara and her family.
Landen never met a stranger. From the moment he could talk, he had the gift of conversation with anyone, anywhere. He was the life of the party, always the one to rally a group, start a game, or simply make sure no one was left out. He made people feel welcomed, seen, and heard. His sense of humor, quick wit, and playful spirit brought smiles and laughter to everyone around him. Landen had a love of sports, especially football, hockey, baseball, and golf.
He had a long list of nicknames—Lando Commando, Thompson, LT, Thurman Merman, Rock Bass, Little Joe, Scratch, Diego—and he loved every one of them. Landen thrived on connection, jokes, and the joy of being with others.
He had the biggest, most caring heart. Landen loved his family more than anything. If he was awake, he was talking, laughing, or planning the next family gathering or hangout with friends. He gave his time freely, dropped everything to be there for others, and loved without condition.
Most importantly, Landen loved everyone with all of his heart, and he forgave quickly. His presence was a gift, and his absence will leave a gaping hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He was a Youth Counselor at First Baptist Church in Ste. Genevieve, where he made a lasting impact on many young lives with his kindness, faith, and ability to connect with others.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 2nd and 8-9:45 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2025 at the Basler Funeral Home.
