A funeral will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 for 101-year-old John C. Bergtholdt of Sainte Genevieve, Mo. who passed away June 9, 2025.
He was born August 9, 1923, son of David A. Bergtholdt and Olive E. Bergtholdt who both preceded him in death.
He married Rita R. Bergtholdt. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by three daughters: Beverly (Carson) Baker, Jacalyn (John) Gibbons, and Deann (Brad) Huck, a daughter-in-law: Connie Bergtholdt, a sister: Ruth (Barry) Wind, a step-sister: Marlene (Don) Hoenemeyer, a sister-in-law: Marita Bergtholdt; grandchildren: Brandon (Anne) Baker, Scott (Mary Kate) Baker, Amanda (Justin) Marone, Terry (Alex) Bergtholdt, Angela (Jared) House, Lindsey (Mike) Brocato, Pauline (Nate) Siesener, Alissa (Nick) Maurer, J.T. (Grace) Gibbons, Mary Gibbons, and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son: Terry J. Bergtholdt; four sisters: Donna M. (Merle) Jensen, Dorothy M. Sproull, Marjorie L. (Frank) Churchill, and Helen (Merwin) Moore; three brothers: Sheldon Z. (Ann) Bergtholdt, Robert D. (Emerita) Bergtholdt, and James Bergtholdt; and a great-granddaughter: Brooklynn House.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul, V.F.W. Post 2210, American Legion Post 150, Wings of Hope Volunteer, and the Ste. Genevieve Flying Club.
John served as a Maintenance Crew Chief on B-17 Bombers for the 401st Squadron during World War II in England.
John was a true gentleman who never met a stranger. He would be the first to tell you how blessed he was with his family and his life. John was never one to sit still and always found ways to help his family and others. His love of life and kindness was a true inspiration for all who knew him.
Visitation will be 9-11:15 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025 at the Basler Funeral Home in Sainte Genevieve, Mo.
A funeral for 101-year-old John C. Bergtholdt of Sainte Genevieve will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025 at the Church of Ste. Genevieve.
Burial will be at Valle Spring Cemetery in Sainte Genevieve, Mo. with full military honors performed by VFW Post 2210
