HILLSBORO, Mo. — Jefferson College will host the second installment of its biennial Day of Renewal for Social Workers on Thursday, Aug. 7, on the Hillsboro campus, providing a full day of professional development and self-care opportunities for licensed social workers seeking continuing education.
Created in 2023 by the Jefferson College Social Work Advisory Committee, the Day of Renewal is designed to provide an affordable, enriching CEU opportunity for licensed social workers across the region. The event is primarily intended for those seeking continuing education units (CEUs) to renew their licenses, with up to eight CEUs approved by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). Jefferson College social work students will also participate as volunteers and attendees. The last event welcomed 60 participants from three states.
Sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a full agenda of expert-led workshops on topics relevant to today’s social work practice. One of the morning highlights includes a session led by Sharon Jackson, a licensed clinical social worker, titled “It Happens to Men, Too!” This session (which meets the licensure requirements for Diversity) will address the issue of men as targets of intimate partner violence. Research, case examples, and resources will expand participants’ knowledge of this topic. In addition, Mark Ludwig will share his advocacy and experience about Equal Shared Parenting rights for all parents.
During the midday break, participants may choose between two options: a “Lunch and Learn” session on suicide prevention presented by Dr. Kristina Kersting, licensed professional counselor, or a “Lunch Break + Session” option featuring “The Power of and the Pen and Policy”, hosted by Certified Social Work Manager Tamitha Ague. Participants selecting the lunch break path will also have access to wellness activities, including therapeutic mini-horses from Hoofprints On My Heart, campus trail walks, library exploration and optional campus tours.
The $40 registration fee includes a continental breakfast, a boxed lunch from Panera Bread (selected during registration), and all workshop materials. Attendees will also have the option to contribute to the Jefferson College Social Work Scholarship Fund. Space is limited to 80 participants. Registration is open now and will close once full or by August 1 deadline.
