IML releases Volume 10 of the Illinois Municipal Policy Journal

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Municipal League (IML), in partnership with the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS), is proud to announce the release of Volume 10 of the Illinois Municipal Policy Journal. This edition marks the 10th anniversary of the publication, which is dedicated to advancing research and dialogue about municipal governance in Illinois.

Volume 10 of the Journal includes articles about the power of the ballot, municipal revenue recovery, a repeat statewide survey of local governments, disaster management through collaboration and a case study about human trafficking. Each article offers evidence-based recommendations to help local officials make informed policy decisions.

“This 10th anniversary edition celebrates not only the publication itself, but the commitment of municipal leaders and scholars who have come together to share information, ideas, data and solutions that strengthen Illinois communities,” said IML Chief Executive Officer Brad Cole. “The Illinois Municipal Policy Journal continues to provide municipal officials with practical, research-driven insights that support effective local governance.”

The Illinois Municipal Policy Journal began in 2016 as a collaboration between IML and DePaul University, and has served as a trusted academic resource for elected and appointed officials, policymakers and scholars. Throughout the past decade, the Journal has published 66 research articles and a combined total of 16 issue briefs and book reviews, covering topics such as homelessness, housing policy, Tax Increment Financing (TIF), public health, infrastructure and environmental sustainability. In 2021, the Journal demonstrated its relevance by providing real-time analysis and practical solutions for municipalities responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Journal is distributed statewide to local leaders, academic institutions, the Illinois General Assembly and statewide constitutional officers, the Illinois Congressional Delegation and other public policy partners. The publication is available free of charge (excluding shipping and handling) at iml.org/publications. An electronic version can be downloaded for free at iml.org/journal.
