Illinois House Republicans say ‘Let ICE Do Its Job’

SPRINGFIELD — As violence against ICE escalates, Illinois House Republicans held a Tuesday morning press conference to discuss their efforts to restore order, support law enforcement, and keep communities safe.

House Minority Leader Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) pointed to the gaslighting and dangerous rhetoric of the governor and Chicago mayor and the consequences of those words playing out in our state.

McCombie said from escalating confrontations with ICE agents to rising tensions with local law enforcement, the incidents are mounting.

State Representative Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) said we must bring down the temperature and political leaders need to stop the use of aggressive rhetoric that is putting lives at risk.

Keicher is sponsoring House Bill 4142 which seeks to tamp down tensions in these situations and to allow enforcement the space that they need to operate and protect both the bystanders and the officers themselves.

Representative CD Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) said the surge of illegal immigrants into Illinois has led to a string of horrific crimes, has endangered public safety and has blown a huge hole in our already stressed and strained budget.

Davidsmeyer is sponsoring House Bill 4142 which seeks to tamp down tensions in these situations and to allow our law enforcement the space that they need to operate and protect both the bystanders and the officers themselves.

The House Republicans stated that people of Illinois deserve better than leaders who side with criminals over communities and if Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson won’t take that responsibility seriously, then the federal government must step up and help.
