Illinois Chamber of Commerce issues statement on the City of Chicago FY26 Budget

SPRINGFIELD, IL. – The Illinois Chamber of Commerce has issued a statement on the City of Chicago FY 26 budget.

It applauds the members of the Chicago City Council that worked to enact an FY26 revenue package that rejects the onerous “head tax” that would have had a devastating impact on Chicago employers and the workers and families they support.

While this budget package is not perfect, and unfortunately contains several increased costs on employers, this Council-led FY26 budget package represents a more fiscally responsible proposal than what was initially introduced by the Mayor’s Office. Much more work is needed to ensure that the City of Chicago’s business climate improves, the cost of doing business in the City is reduced, and more reasonable cost efficiencies and spending reductions are prioritized in the budget-making process.

The Illinois Chamber is ready to work with all willing partners to create an improved fiscal future for Chicago.
