CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO -The American Red Cross and Southeast Missouri State University Greek Life are celebrating Red Cross Month during the annual Spring Greek Week Blood Drive, Sunday, March 22, from noon to 6 p.m., and Monday, March 23, through Wednesday, March 25, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center East Gym, 750 New Madrid, in Cape Girardeau.
SEMO Greek Life is calling all students, staff, faculty, and neighbors in Cape Girardeau and southeastern Missouri to rally together for this lifesaving event. All presenting donors will receive a special Red Cross T-shirt while supplies last. The American Red Cross urges donors to help the national blood supply recover following a severe shortage and empower their health by making an appointment to give blood or platelets in March. During Red Cross month, we’re honoring the people who deliver support when help can’t wait.
In March, successful donations get free A1C testing (1 result per calendar year). Plus, those who come to give March 1-31 will get a $15 Amazon Gift Card by email. Additional details can be found at RedCrossBlood.org/March
“We can always count on SEMO students and the Southeast Missouri community to make the Spring Greek Week Blood Drive a successful event,” said Micheal Sullivan, Executive Director, Red Cross of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas. “Their community spirit has a powerful impact on their neighbors, family, and friends.”
How to donate blood
Simply download the Red Cross Blood Donor App or visit RedCrossBlood.org, and enter sponsor code: SEMOGreekWeek, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.
Red Cross Month
Red Cross Month celebrates and honors people who deliver support to those who can’t wait. Giving blood can save more than one life with a single donation. Taking a CPR class teaches you how to triple a person’s odds of surviving a cardiac arrest. Lending your time and talent prevents and alleviates suffering in the face of emergencies. Donating a gift of any size helps volunteers provide immediate relief and hope. Red Cross Month is a great time to get involved by volunteering, giving blood, making a financial contribution, or learning life-saving skills. Visit redcross.org. for more information.
This year’s Red Cross Month culminates with Red Cross Giving Day on March 25 to bring together 30,000 supporters to help ensure families don’t face disaster alone. Your donations provide emergency shelter, food, comfort, relief supplies, and financial assistance for people in need. A gift of any size makes a difference. For example, a donation of $20 provides a day of meals for someone devastated by a disaster. Donate and learn more at redcross.org/GivingDay
