JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – In honor of Constitution Day next week, the Supreme
Court of Missouri is planning to celebrate with the grand opening of its
new Judicial Discovery Center Monday morning, September 14. The center –
under development for several years on the second floor of the Court’s
building in Jefferson City – is designed as an interactive space for
students and adults to learn more about the rule of law, the role of courts
in our system of government, and how judges decide cases. Details are
below.
When: 11 a.m. to noon Monday, September 14
Where: Second Floor, Supreme Court Building, Jefferson City
What to expect: The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude with
an official ribbon cutting, with informal time afterward to explore
the space and talk with guests.
Who is participating: Speakers are expected to include
representatives of the Court and the Supreme Court of Missouri
Historical Society.
Guests will include students and teachers from the New Franklin R-I
Schools, who will be touring the space just before the ceremony; the
students will be covered by a media release.
The Court is excited to host students from New Franklin, given an historic
connection between the Court and the local schools there. In March 1821,
the Court held its first session in Franklin. Its clerk for the judicial
district was Gray Bynum, who also helped found the first school in the area
and was its first teacher.
