Glen Elbert Edwards passed away at his home on September 17, 2026. During his final days, he was under the care of his family as guided by Journey Hospice. He was 93 years old.
He was born in Stringtown, Missouri on May 3, 1933 to Noel Edgar and Lily Fern Carnahan Edwards. On September 16,1953 he married Betty Jean Fredwell at the New Home General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. At the time of his death, he and Betty had been married for 73 years.
Glen was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School and served in the U.S. Army. He attended college at Southeast Missouri State University. As an owner of a construction company, he began the business building yards in Perryville and later constructed river levees in Arkansas. He supervised the building of Interstate 55 through Troy, Illinois. He retired as owner of Gateway Equipment in St Louis. Under his ownership, this was the third largest Ford/New Holland dealership worldwide.
Glen was an honest salesman, avid woodworker, passionate chef, enthusiastic fisherman and legendary story teller. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his wife Betty and three children; Terryl (Jane) Edwards; Glenda (John) Miesner and Randy (Melody) Edwards. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren; Jacob (Stephanie) Edwards, Paul Edwards, Leah Edwards, Mary (Lee) Ryherd, Andrew Miesner, Amanda Miesner, Samuel (Megan) Edwards and Luke Edwards (Devin Goebel). His great-grandchildren are Iris and Reid Ryherd. His brother Willard (Joyce, deceased) Edwards also survives, as do many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Julian Ray Edwards and sisters, Doris “Dot” (Walter) Richmond and Betty Jo (Donnie) Winkler.
Friends and family will be welcomed on Friday, September 25th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Perryville (6 East Ste Maries Street) for the visitation. Funeral services will be officiated by the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer on Saturday, September 26th at 10:30 AM at First Presbyterian Church. Internment will follow at the Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Memorials may be given to Perry County School District 32 Angel Fund, which helps to insure nutrition for all students. Memorials may also be given to Journey Hospice and the First Presbyterian Church, both in Perryville.
