ST. LOUIS — Next week, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Camp Fury STL, an immersive public safety career exploration program that has inspired 212 young women to discover their strength, leadership potential, and future career opportunities over the past decade.
From June 14–19, high school Girl Scouts from across eastern Missouri will train alongside female firefighters, officers, paramedics, and emergency responders, participating in realistic, hands-on exercises designed to challenge them physically and mentally while introducing them to careers that are vital to our communities.
As communities across the country work to recruit and retain the next generation of first responders, Camp Fury STL continues to provide girls with early exposure to careers in public safety while connecting them with women who serve as mentors and role models. Through mentorship, leadership development, and hands-on experiences, participants gain confidence, resilience, teamwork skills, and a greater understanding of what it means to serve and protect their communities.
Over the last decade, Camp Fury STL has graduated 212 participants, creating a growing legacy of young women empowered to pursue careers in public service, leadership, and fields where women continue to be underrepresented.
“Camp Fury is about much more than learning public safety skills,” said Dr. Natissia Small, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri. “For ten years, this program has empowered girls to discover their strengths, build confidence, and envision themselves as future leaders through hands-on experiences and mentorship from remarkable women serving our communities every day. As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we are proud of the 212 young women whose lives have been impacted by Camp Fury and grateful for the partnerships that continue to inspire the next generation of leaders and public servants.”
Throughout the week, campers will work side-by-side with first responder mentors while participating in a variety of public safety and leadership experiences, including:
- Climbing a 100-foot aerial ladder
- Rappelling from a multi-story building
- Vehicle extrication exercises
- Search and rescue training
- CPR and emergency response skills
- Traffic stop simulations
- Crime lab and criminal justice experiences
- Team-building and leadership development activities
Camp Fury STL is a partnership between Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri and public safety agencies from across the region, providing participants with unprecedented access to career experiences that few teenagers have the opportunity to explore firsthand.
