Agriculture & Environment.

Each year, the Missouri State Fair designates a day to celebrate farm families from across the state who are engaged in production agriculture, demonstrate strong community involvement, and participate in outreach and youth development programs such as 4-H or FFA.

The Gegg family raises chickens, as well as commercial and registered Boer goats. The operation started as a desire to learn about growing and supplying animals to local markets. As Jesse Gegg states, “It quickly developed into raising and preparing the animals for local and regional fairs. Kenzie participates regularly in 4-H and loves to share her passion and knowledge of her animals. Connor, in turn, just turned eight and went from a Clover Kid to participating in local fairs also. The kids along with Chrissy and I had great mentorship from Mike and Jill Naeger on what it takes to develop and maintain a stable and healthy herd.” The family hopes “to leave a small mark on the community by providing opportunities to those who seek our similar interests.”

Farm Family Day is made possible through the support of the Missouri Farm Bureau, the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the Missouri State Fair Commissioners, the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, and MU Extension.

“This day is a meaningful tradition that puts the spotlight on the families who are the backbone of Missouri agriculture,” said Missouri State Fair Director Jason Moore. “They’re not only feeding our state and nation, but they’re also leading in their communities and supporting the next generation of agricultural leaders. It’s an honor to recognize their dedication.”
