Gay M. Siegmund, 95, of Perryville, Missouri died peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Mercy Southeast Hospital in the company of her children.
She lived a full life with few regrets. She was an avid bridge player, loved placing a small bet at the horse and dog tracks, survived the many world travels with her daughters, and dancing. She cherished holidays spent with her family. No holiday was without her famous clam dip and a rousing game of cards.
She was born August 10, 1929 in St. Mary, MO to Edward J. Boxdorfer and Amy Lee (Morgan) Boxdorfer Pourney.
Gay graduated salutatorian from Perryville High School in 1947. She attended Southeast Missouri State and taught school at the Baudendistel, Moranville, and Moran Schools in Perry County, and St. Vincent Elementary School in Perryville. Later, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for Farmers Home Administration until retirement.
Gay married Edward J. Siegmund on March 4, 1950. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1985. Also preceding her in death were infant sister and brother Jean O’Neil and Lee Edward Boxdorfer, and daughter and son-in-law Diana and Gary Burch.
She is survived by children Nikki (Byron) Wilson of Perryville, Ed (Joan) Siegmund of Kansas City, Curt (Jana) Siegmund of Marquand, and Stephanie Siegmund of St. Louis. Grandchildren-Jonathan Powers, Jeremy Powers, Jenny (Brett) Voelker, J.W. (Mary) Powers, Cole (Lisa) Cattoor, Tyson (Adrienne) Cattoor, Patrick (Samantha) Siegmund, Lacey (Seth) Amschler, and Dillon Bittiker. Step-Grandchildren Chad Wilson, Abigail Albeck, Alex Albeck, Michael Besand, and Jessica (Kenny) Naeger, and 16 great grandchildren.
Gay participated in many church and civic organizations including the Ladies of Charity, Daughters of Isabella, Perry County Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion and K of C Auxiliaries, volunteered at Perryville School District and St. Vincent Schools, and Perry County Memorial Hospital.
At her request- her body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine.
A private mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
