Gavin Gegg is selected for the Missouri Scholars 100 program

STE. GENEVIEVE – A senior at Ste. Genevieve High School has been named to the 2026 Missouri Scholars 100 program.

This statewide initiative, organized by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MoASSP), recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of 100 outstanding students from the graduating class of 2026.

SGHS Principal Dr. John Boyd Jr. announced Gegg’s selection recently.

“I am incredibly proud of Gavin and the hard work he has put into earning this outstanding recognition,” he said. “I have had the privilege of watching his growth and development from his middle school years to the student he has become today. Gavin’s intelligence is impressive, but what stands out even more is his ability to adapt, lead and give back to SGHS in so many ways. Our entire school community is beyond proud of Gavin and this well-deserved honor.”

The recognition will culminate in a special luncheon hosted at the Wyndham Executive Center in Columbia, MO, on Sunday, May 3, 2026

Gavin’s scholastic honors include: being ranked No. 1 in his graduating class; being in the Top 10 Percent of his class all four years; earning Summa Cum Laude and being on the A Honor Roll all four years; earning a superscore of 36 on the ACT; and earning the following class awards: English I, Industrial Woods, Engineering Graphics and ACT Prep. Gavin received the Bright Flight Scholarship, a Missouri merit-based scholarship with a current maximum amount of $3000 per year to qualifying graduating seniors who enroll in a Missouri accredited college or university.

Gavin was recognized as the Elks Student of the Month for October for SGHS.

Gavin received the College Board Rural and Small-Town Recognition Award for 2024 and the CollegeBoard National Recognition Program Award for 2025.

Gavin has been involved in the following teams, clubs and organizations: SGHS Cross Country and Track teams all four years, SGHS Math Team and French Club.

Gavin attended Missouri Scholars Academy at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He also participated in SEMO Math Field Day Competition, earning first place in Number Bases and 3rd place in Mental Arithmetic, Exponents and Logarithms, Number Theory, and Non-Routine Problem Solving.

Gavin is employed at County Home Center and Southbound Fuel. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games, hiking, and riding bikes, dirt bikes and motorcycles. He also enjoys doing 3D printing and designing in Computer Aided Design programs.

Gavin is tentatively planning to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia (where his Perfect Score Scholarship will cover his full tuition and fees all four years), and pursue aerospace engineering.

Congratulations, Gavin, on this fantastic achievement!

About Missouri Scholars 100

Missouri Scholars 100 is a competitive program that invites schools across the state to nominate candidates based on academic excellence. The selection process employs a formula considering the student’s grade point average and ACT or SAT scores. Nominees must meet the criteria of an “Academic Decathlon,” successfully navigating ten challenging academic events to showcase their scholastic strength.

To qualify, students must: hold a minimum GPA of 3.750, a minimum ACT score of 29 or a minimum SAT score of 1,280; rank in the upper 10 percent of their class; and engage in advanced coursework in mathematics, science, English and foreign language. Additionally, nominees must exhibit excellent attendance, exemplary citizenship within the school and active participation in the school’s activity program.

“The Missouri Scholars 100 Program is one of the nation’s premier academic recognition programs and stands as a true celebration of learning,” said Chris Hoehne, Executive Director of the principals’ association. “Students selected for this distinction have challenged themselves with rigorous course work while maintaining the highest levels of academic excellence and giving back to their communities. The Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals and its Board of Directors proudly recognizes and celebrates the remarkable achievements of these students and the schools that support their success.”

The 2026 Missouri Scholars 100 program marks its 32nd annual recognition, reflecting a longstanding commitment to honoring academic excellence.
