A funeral will be held Monday, March 2, 2026 for 91-year-old Fred “Skip” A. Wiscombe of Ruma, Illinois, who passed away at 10:40 am, Monday, February 23, 2026, at Accolade Healthcare of Waterloo.
He was born June 23, 1934 in Belleville, Illinois to Frederick Benjamin and Wanda Bell (nee Rolander) Wiscombe who both preceded him in death.
Fred married Joann Elizabeth Janning on July 7, 1955, in Edwardsville, Illinois. They were blessed with 48 years of marriage until Joann preceded him in death on September 13, 2003.
He is survived by six children: Michael (Carol) Wiscombe of Percy, IL, Sandra (Don Jr.) Hamilton of Renault, IL, Debra (Ronald) Rodenberg of Fults, IL, Linda (Dennis) Unverferth of Red Bud, IL, Barbara Hooten of Red Bud, IL and James (Candy) Wiscombe of Robertsville, MO; a sister: Anna Bell (Roy) Mullinks of Marine, IL; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law: Harold Hooten; a brother: Joe Wiscombe, and a sister: Rose Marie (Raymond) Lawson.
Fred had worked as a carpenter for the Union Hall in East Louis, Illinois, for 40 years and had been a member for 70 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Renault, Illinois.
Fred found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether he was casting a line while fishing, going hunting, enjoying a game of cards, heading to the casino, or tending to his garden, he embraced every moment.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2026 at the Pechacek Funeral Homes, Red Bud, Illinois
A funeral for 91-year-old Fred “Skip” A. Wiscombe of Ruma will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2026 at the Pechacek Funeral Homes, Red Bud, Illinois. Officiating: Fr. Sebastian Ukoh.
Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Renault, Illinois.
