Official release from Ste. Genevieve County Fire District
STE. GENEVIEVE — On Monday, July 20, 2026 (shortly after our department training) at 10:01PM, a first alarm residential fire was dispatched on Washington Street east of Main. Ste Genevieve Fire District, Ste
Genevieve County Fire District stations 1 & 8 were dispatched along with
Ste Gen Ambulance and SGPD.
The first fire unit arrived on scene within five minutes from the time of dispatch and confirmed everyone was out of the structure and there was a working fire in the basement. The fire was first attacked from
the rear basement steps, but due to the amount of fire, and the structural stability of the building, the fire had to be fought from the outside. The amount of fire, construction and condition of the house,
made the fire extremely hard to access and extinguish.
Due to the high heat and humidity, an additional alarm had to be called for manpower. SG EMS monitored our people and our ladies rehab team assisted with water, vital signs and monitoring all on scene personnel.
Mutual aid departments started getting released around 1:45 AM. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
The Missouri State Fire Marshals Office was requested to assist in the fire investigation. Units remained on scene until 3:06 AM for the fire investigation and confirm the fire was out. The official cause of the fire is listed as undetermined.
This is another great example of all Ste Genevieve and Ste Genevieve County First Responders working together to keep our community safe.
