With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved son, Evan Richard Hayden, who left this world on July 28, 2026, at the age of 19.
Evan was born on July 13, 2007, to Natasha Lynn (Ruesler) Wheeler and John Joseph Hayden. Although his time with us was far too short, the love he shared, the joy he brought, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Evan was a hardworking young man who took great pride in his job as a deckhand for Southern Illinois Transport. He never shied away from hard work and was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to lend a helping hand.
A 2025 graduate of Perryville High School, Evan was a dedicated three-sport athlete who played football, basketball, and baseball. Whether on the field or on the court, he gave his all, led by example, and encouraged those around him. He was also a faithful member of Christ the Savior Church in Brewer.
Outside of work and sports, Evan found joy in the simple things that meant the most. He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards, making people laugh, and spending time with his family and friends. He was his little sister’s biggest fan while cheering her on at volleyball games. His Dad and him loved to watch Michigan and Cowboys football games together. No matter where life took him, family always came first.
Evan had a larger-than-life personality and a heart that drew people to him. He never met a stranger and had a way of making everyone around him laugh. Young children especially adored him. To them, he was a hero, a best friend, and the person they couldn’t wait to see. Whether he was playing, joking, or simply spending time with them, he made every child feel important and loved. The smiles he brought to their faces and the memories he created with them will never be forgotten. More than anything, Evan loved his family. He was a devoted son, a proud brother, a loving grandson who was always Mama and Papa’s buddy, a cherished nephew, cousin, and a loyal friend. His smile, laughter, generous spirit, and unwavering love for those around him will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Natasha (Jason) Wheeler & John (Leslie Roth) Hayden; sister, Lucy Hayden; three step-brothers, Wyatt Wheeler, Davin Wheeler, Barrett Wheeler; maternal-grandparents, Jerry & Lois Ruesler; paternal-grandparents, Joe & JoAnn Hayden, maternal great-grandparents, Richard and Katy Ruesler; uncle Nathan (Carla) Ruesler; aunt, Jennifer (Aaron) Weibrecht; cousins, Kinsley & Kayson, godmother Valerie Hotop.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Evan’s love, kindness, infectious laughter, and hardworking spirit will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched. While we cannot understand why his journey ended so soon, we take comfort in our faith, believing that Evan is now at peace in the loving presence of God. We are forever grateful for the 19 years we were blessed to share with him, and we look forward to the day we are reunited with him in heaven. Evan will be forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville and will continue from 7:00 am to 9:30 am on Monday, August 3, 2026 at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday, August 3, 2026 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville with Rev. Joe Geders C.M. officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Perryville Athletic Club or the Semo Suicide Prevention Board.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
