A funeral will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026 for 91-year-old Edward “Ed” Balsmann, Jr. of Old Appleton, Missouri who passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born July 3, 1934 in Uniontown, Mo. to Edward and Josephine (Schott) Balsmann.
Ed and Doris Pingel were married May 23, 1959 at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle.
Survivors include two children, Melody (Jim) Todd of Jackson, Edward (Kelly) Balsmann III of Dallas, TX; brother, Elmer (Joyce) Balsmann of Perryville; four grandchildren, Crystal Todd, Chelsea Todd, Luke Kursonis, Gavin Balsmann.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Wilma Myers, William Balsmann, Herbert Balsmann, Flora Robert.
He served in the United States Army and then worked as both a carpenter and a truck driver for many years.
Ed enjoyed being in nature, hunting, fishing, woodworking, carpentry, gardening, and watching baseball. He was a wonderful grandpa and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Post#133 and the St. Joseph Apple Creek Men’s Club.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2026 at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville and will continue from 8:00 am to 9:15 am on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at the funeral home.
A funeral mass for 91-year-old Edward “Ed” Balsmann, Jr. of Old Appleton will be will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Church in Apple Creek with the Rev. Michael Benz officiating.
Burial will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Apple Creek.
Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society or Saint Francis Foundation of St. Francis Healthcare System in Cape Girardeau.
Military Honors will be provided by Delta Team and American Legion Post #133.
