PERRYVILLE – Perry County District 32 Schools were placed on a brief lockdown Monday, July 20, due to a police chase that concluded on the District 32 campus.
Perryville Police were pursuing a suspected stolen vehicle south on Main Street at approximately 12:40 p.m. when the suspect turned east onto Campus Drive and led the chase through the District 32 campus.
Law enforcement pursued the vehicle through campus parking lots and across the grass at Pirate Stadium where the suspect made several circles while searching for an escape route. The vehicle eventually exited the field up a walkway before reaching a dead end in a gravel lot next to Old Senior High. The suspect exited the vehicle and was immediately apprehended.
Thanks to the quick action by local law enforcement, there were no injuries reported.
“We are extremely relieved that everyone on our campus is safe today,” said Superintendent Dr. Fara Jones. “The swift action of our local law enforcement officers contained a very unpredictable, dangerous situation quickly. We cannot thank our local police and emergency personnel enough for their courage and immediate response in keeping our district protected.”
