A funeral will be held Saturday, July 6, 2025 for 73-year-old David J. Shaffer of Cape Girardeau, Mo., who peacefully passed away with his wife by his side, Monday, June 23, 2025 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
He was born September 25, 1951 in Cambridge, Neb. to Bill and June Shaffer who both preceded him in death.
David and Gayle were married July 26, 1997 at Cape Girardeau, Mo. She survives him in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Survivors include two daughters: Laura (Steve), Kristin (Jay), and Kasey (Tim); a son: Kristopher (April); a brother: Rick; two sisters: Sharon and Christie; hairy Shaffer kids, Moses, Henry, Jesse David and Marvin; eight grandchildren: Kaylee, Kameryn, Ian, Caleb, Ava, Annabelle, Autumn, Aubrey; nieces and nephews, Zachary, Micah, Jesse, Breanne, Jacob and Jasmine; great-niece and nephew, Layton and Evie.
He was also preceded in death by two grandsons: Devon and Sydney.
He was a dedicated occupational therapist for many years.
David could repurpose anything. He was a fishing and boating enthusiast and of anything that involved water. He was a proud houseboat owner on Kentucky Lake for 20 years. He was a lover of all animals. David dearly loved his grandchildren and aggravating them and Gayle.
He was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Funeral Service will be at 11:30 am Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau with Rev. Kevin Coffee officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Missouri Pets.
