Civil War Group to Celebrate the 4th

STE. GENEVIEVE – On Friday, July 4th, the Lt. Col. J. Felix St. James Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will host a living history camp in the yard of the Felix Valle House State Historic Site from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It was traditional for Civil War veterans to host picnics and celebrations on the glorious 4th.

At 11 a.m., camp members will march around the downtown area handing out small flags. They will stop in front of the courthouse and give a short talk on the 4th of July, followed by firing a rifle salute. The march will continue back to the camp via Market Street.

Visitors will learn about Ste. Genevieve’s history during the Civil War and the life of a soldier. This event is family-friendly and handicap accessible.
