Chester Covered Bridge Progress

By David Friess, state representative

RED BUD—As you may recall, in 2023, the Chester Covered Bridge suffered severe damage to both its exterior and interior. Since then, IDOT has made construction efforts a top priority. With this being a historical structure, the repairs had to be approved by the Illinois State Historical Society.

I’m pleased to report that construction is nearing completion, as crews focus on the final details that will restore and preserve this important part of our local heritage. I understand that this has been a long process, but I can assure you that every effort is being made to ensure the bridge reflects the quality and character that our community expects.

I appreciate the continued patience of area residents and visitors as this project comes to a close. These final touches are essential to delivering a result that honors the bridge’s history and ensures its integrity for years to come.
