WOLF CREEK – Ten area fire departments including Ste. Genevieve City and Ste. Genevieve County and first responders, including the Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance District and Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office were called out just before 2 p.m. Friday by the report of a structure fire on Route AA.
The first unit arriving on the scene found fire venting the first floor rear sun room with extension to the second floor. The firefighters and a Ste Genevieve County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to check the residence but were unable to access due to fire conditions.
Another unit arrived and a 1¾ inch line was pulled to the rear of the dwelling and the sun room and exterior fire was knocked down.
An additional unit arrived on the scene and supplied a three-inch supply line. Due to low manpower, time of day and fire conditions a second alarm assignment was requested that brought five other units to the scene.
The firefighters transitioned to an interior attack on the first floor and continued to the second floor encountering heavy fire and heat conditions.
A primary search of the residence by arriving crews was conducted and no occupants were found.
A secondary search was also negative for occupants.
Arriving first and second alarm engine crews were assigned fire attack and access to the attic was made throughout the second floor to extinguish fire. Arriving first and second alarm tankers were assigned to water supply.
Due to the age of the structure and balloon frame construction, fire extended from the main floor up the wall cavities into the second floor and attic.
Crews were rotated in and out of the structure numerous times for interior fire attack and extensive overhaul. Crews were on scene fore approximately three hours.
