Mississippi River falls below flood stage

CHESTER – The Mississippi River fell below flood stage Tuesday morning, falling to 26.75 feet on the Chester gage.

 

It was forecast to fall to 25.6 this morning, then 24.8 Thursday, 23.8 Friday, 23.4 Saturday and 23.2 Sunday.

 

The high water has forced the suspension of ferry service between Ste. Genevieve, Mo. and Modoc, Ill. There has been no announcement regarding the ferry returning to service.

 

The high water also forced construction of the Don Welge Memorial Bridge to be halted.
