Mississippi River expected to fall below flood stage

CHESTER – The Mississippi River remained above flood stage Monday.

The river was at 27.47 Monday morning, 0.47 feet above the 27.0 flood stage.

It was forecast to fall below flood stage to 26.4 this morning, then fall to 25.5 Wednesday, 24.8 Thursday, 24.2 Friday and 23.7 Saturday.

The high water has forced the suspension of ferry service between Ste. Genevieve, Mo. and Modoc, Ill.

It has also forced the construction of the Don Welge Memorial Bridge to be halted.
