Mississippi River may fall below flood stage this week

CHESTER – The Mississippi River was still above flood stage Sunday, but the forecast calls for the river to fall below flood stage Wednesday.

The river was at 30.52 feet Sunday morning, 3.52 feet above the 27-foot flood stage.

It was forecast to fall to 30.0 Monday, 28.4 Tuesday, 26.8 Wednesday, 26.1 Thursday and 25.8 Friday.

The high water has forced the suspension of ferry service between Ste. Genevieve, Mo. and Modoc, Ill.
