MAC English Department hosts Word Fest writing competition

PARK HILLS – The Mineral Area College English Department recently hosted its annual Word Fest writing competition.  

Students in grades 9-12 were invited to submit personal narrative essays. Seven local high schools submitted work: Arcadia Valley, Central, Perry County, Ste. Genevieve, Steelville, Tucker Homeschool, and Valley R-6

First, second, and third place winners in the junior class division each received a $250 MAC dual credit/ dual enrollment scholarship; first and second place winners in the freshman, sophomore, and senior class divisions received gift cards. All participants received a journal.

Senior Class Division

First place: Maddie Lawson (Valley R-6)
Second place: Bethany Buck (Viburnum)

Junior Class Division

First place: Anna Pyatt (Valley R-6)
Second place: Cole Murdock (Viburnum)
Third place:  Rachael Tucker (Tucker Homeschool)

Sophomore Class Division

First place: Reese Brogan (Arcadia Valley)
Second place:  Luke Ferranto (Ste. Genevieve)

Freshman Class Division

First place: Nataleigh Brown (Steelville)
Second place: Peighton Frazier (Steelville)
