Missouri State Highway Patrol seeks commercial vehicle    officer applicants

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri State Highway Patrol, a premiere law enforcement agency, is accepting applications for new commercial vehicle officers. The 18th CVO Class is scheduled to begin training on January 2, 2025. The application deadline is July 31, 2024. Interested persons are encouraged to take immediate action to apply for this career opportunity.

The Human Resources Division will contact each applicant to determine their location(s) of interest. Currently, positions are available at each of the following scale houses or portable scale truck:

Troop A — Harrisonville, MO, and Mayview, MO
Troop C — Foristell, MO, and Bloomsdale, MO
Troop H — Eagleville, MO, and Watson, MO
Troop I — Rolla, MO

To be eligible, candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED. For the Accelerated Academy eligibility, a candidate must possess a Class A POST License. If you are an out-of-state applicant, you will need to contact the Missouri Department of Public Safety Peace Officer Standards and Training Program to see if you qualify to take the Missouri Class A POST Veteran Officer exam. All current Missouri Class A POST-certified officers who have received a final offer will attend an accelerated six-week academy.

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment and be a United States citizen. The Patrol offers a great salary and benefit package to new employees.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s uniformed civilian guidelines allows tattoos or brands as long as they meet two requirements: 1) The tattoos or brands cannot depict or support criminal behavior, drug usage, nudity, profanity, promiscuity, subversive groups, bigotry, etc. 2) Tattoos/brands cannot be located on the head, neck, hands, wrists, or any part of the body which would be visible during movements in the performance of their duties while wearing an official uniform or civilian attire. The sole exception is that one traditional band style ring tattoo may be displayed on a single ring finger. Any such ring tattoo will not extend beyond the proximal phalanx. Commercial vehicle officers with tattoos on the arms that would be visible in the class B uniform (short sleeves) will wear the class A uniform year-round, which includes a long-sleeve shirt and tie.

The selection process includes a written examination and interview. Prospective employees are required to undergo and successfully complete a polygraph examination, background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, and a Patrol-administered drug test prior to an official offer of employment being made.
