Today is the day most of us has been looking forward to for seven years.
Around 2 p.m. today, the moon will overshadow the sun in a dramatic display.
Events are planned around the area.
Enjoy them, but please remember in your excitement to drive carefully.
Leave early for your destination.
Law enforcement on both side of the river are warning of increased traffic on major highways and side roads as well.
Vehicles may be parked on the sides of the roads, pedestrians — especially children — may dart out in front of you.
Now the times of totality in our River Region communities.
Chester 1:58-2:02 p.m.
Perryville 1:58-2:02 p.m.
Ste. Genevieve 2-2:03 p.m.
Finally a word of caution about eclipse glasses. It is being reported that some of the eclipse glass have been recalled. Please contact the place where you purchases yours to see if they have been recalled.
If you are left without eclipse glasses you can still enjoy the experience, but you must follow these instructions exactly. Do not look at the sun until totality has arrived, and look away the instant the sun begins to reappear.
