KANSAS CITY – MoDOT’s Kansas City District recently rolled out an innovative way to safely fill potholes in the area.
The Pothole Patcher is a truck with a driver-controlled arm attached that cleans out debris from the pothole and then fills it with hot oil and rock before sealing off the top with excess material. Then the truck drives over the patch to pack it down and level it off.
This innovative pothole solution has already repaired thousands of potholes in the Kansas City area and takes less time than a ground crew. It also keeps MoDOT workers safe inside the vehicle, leading to less risk to workers on Missouri roadways.
If you see the pothole patcher out on the road, please give it room to work and always slow down for MoDOT crews.
There is a “Report a Road Concern” page on MoDOT’s website where customers can report potholes in their areas, or they can call the toll-free customer service line at 1-888-ASK-MODOT.
