PERRYVILLE – Perry County office holders welcomed students from St Vincent, Saxony and Perryville High School to the Perry County Courthouse for County Government Day on March 18. The annual event is organized by the American Legion Post 133 Women’s Auxiliary.
Forty-three students – two or three for each office holder, spent the morning touring county facilities and learning the particulars of the different job duties of the elected offices that make up Perry County’s government, before gathering at the American Legion for a luncheon where they shared what they learned with other classmates.
This annual event is a nearly 70-year tradition in our community.
This year marked the first-time students from Saxony Lutheran High School participated.
Participants included: From PHS: Bennett Broeking, Simon Wibbenmeyer, Aiden Parkes, Jenna Brewer, Masen Cochran, Lucas White, Johannah Hoffer, Delaney Kaempfe, Destiny Mudge, Jeremiah Buchheit, Daisy Ernst, Ana Moll, Kylee Stortz, Kale Adams, and Andrew Cooklin.
From St Vincent: Drake Robinson, Carter Naeger, Simon Barber, Payton Strattman, Logan Hornberger, Cailyn Prost, Genia Feher, Claire Otte, Ava Layton, Christian Schaaf, Bre Elliot, Maddie Dobbelare and Lydia Clements.
From Saxony: Joe Zoellner, Sydney Ernst, Jack Buerck, Paige Seibel, Luke Eggemeyer, Landre Hoehne, Grace Ozark, Payton Meier, Dalton Head, Leah Fritsche, Austin Buerck, Mallory Kohfeld, Jesse Schupp, David Weinhold and Briona Breig.
The group also witnessed a flag folding ceremony conducted by members of the Legion Color Guard.
